2002 Colts too hot for Currie to handle in Cup

2002coltsSunday saw the 2002 Colts head across the capital to take on Currie Star Colts at Balerno High School in the Sportsassist SE Region cup.

The game was played on a fantastic 4g pitch in great weather, the perfect recipe for fast flowing football.

From the outset, the Spartans team were dominant, creating many more chances than their hosts throughout a frantic first half.

By half time they were 3-0 ahead courtesy of a Nathan double and Alex (McLaughlin) in on the goals too.  Many more opportunities could have been converted had the boys moved the ball quicker and been more composed in front of goal.  It should also be noted too, that the opposition keeper had a fantastic game and made many good saves keeping his team in the match.

After a team talk at half time the boys moved the ball with a greater sense of urgency, using one and two touches with width and depth. This flowing football put the opposition under pressure resulting in a further seven goals scored in the second half.

It wasn’t completely one way traffic however with the opposition scoring twice.  With the outcome of the game looking a formality, it was time for the Coaches to improvise by moving players around in the last twenty minutes to challenge them.
