Scottish Youth Cup: Under 15s progress to last 16

inspiresport-bannerSpartans u15s will take on Ayrshire hot-shots AC Irvine in the last 16 of the Scottish Youth Cup after their 3-1 victory over Culter at the weekend.

Spartans started strongly against the northern lads, with Joe In particular flying repeatedly down the wing. Just the final touch or too many touches enabled Culter to block numerous chances that would have seen the hosts take a deserved advantage.

Against the run of play Culter had a couple of chances of their own and they capitalised on a lack of concentration in the Spartans defence to snatch an unlikely lead.

The boys dominated the first half and played some decent football but were unable to find the net.

A few changes at break and a teamtalk from the Coaches about being patient produced a lightning fast start in the second half with Reece right through virtually from kick off. The shot cannoned off the goalie’s legs but was a sign of things to come.

Spartans poured on pressure and the breakthrough came from Lorcan who provided an excellent finish and hopefully the beginning of something big for the kid.  Pumped up by the goal, Spartans continued to press and Reece smashed home a second before Jack Cs deflected effort wrapped things up.

Spartans had numerous more chances to pull further ahead but also had Niall to thank for some safe hands at the other end.
