Chairperson’s welcome

Let me wish you a very warm welcome from everyone at The Spartans Football Club (Les-Atkinson-profileYouth Section).

Our membership currently boasts >700 players (boys & girls combined) with over 80 qualified coaches fully covered by Disclosure Scotland. We currently operate squads at under 6’s and 7’s, participate in soccer 4’s at under 8’s and soccer 7’s at under 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s.

We progress to 11-a-side teams at under 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, 16’s, 17’s and 19’s. These age groups run a minimum of two teams.  Our girls section operates from U9s to U15s just now, with plans to introduce an U17 team in 2018.

The success story of the Spartans Youth section continues both on and off the park as we steadily grow.  We work closely with The Spartans Community Football Academy who prepare and recruit our Under 6 intake for transition from the Academy community coaching programmes into the youth section.  This new way of working has proved to be an enormous success & rewards loyalty.

Our no.1 motivation & key objective which drives and shapes the ethos of the Spartans family is to provide a clean, modern, safe place where everyone can enjoy playing football in fun learning environment – for us, this is at the very heart of ‘The Spartans Way’.

We believe that there is always a feel-good factor at the “The Spartans Academy”.  I hope you can all recognise, sense & feel this family connection when you are here.  Another of our key aims is to develop good citizens, to teach young people core values such as respect for each other, to work hard, to embrace new challenges etc.  For us it’s about playing our part in helping to develop good people who as a footballer will embrace ‘The Spartans Way’.

Across the whole club we work closely with the SFA. The youth section plays a leading part in helping the club maintain its prestigious SFA Legacy award. This is awarded to clubs who excel in their coaching standards, football development and their wider contribution to the local community. This recognition cements our position as one of the most innovative and leading Community clubs within Scotland.  It is something we are proud to be part of.

Our Academy delivers a wide range of programmes in youth work, education and free coaching for local children.  From time to time you will be invited to support the work of our charity, e.g. various appeals.

At youth level our club genuinely believes it’s not the winning that counts but ensuring we provide the best development of our players at all levels. This mind set has not prevented us from producing National and local trophy winning teams.  Ultimately we want to see our talented players’ progress to U20 development squad level, first team and beyond.

I would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to all the volunteers across the Youth Section for their continued commitment, effort and support. To those who are new to the Spartans family, enjoy the journey.

Remember; this is your club so let’s make it work – Live together. Play together. Win together.

Welcome to Spartans.
